Trading Spouses: Chase/Lane

In this episode of Trading Spouses, mommies from two families are swapped. The mom in the Chase family is an angry, intolerant woman who, if she was pregnant with a child with Down's Syndrome, would abort it. She also hates Hispanics and thinks homosexuals have defects. The Lane family coincidentally happens to be a Lesbian couple living in California with two kids, one boy and one little girl. As you may expect, the spouse swap created a lot of drama.

The Chase household turns out to be filled with anger. The father kept verbally abusing the teenage daughters, especially during sports games. These sports games are just regular suburban soccer matches, yet the father acts as if they were in the Olympics. He constantly criticizes his daughters, telling them they're fat, they're too slow, or they're having too much fun. During a game of baseball he throws the ball at one of his daughter's legs and the force of the ball on her legs was so much she started crying. The father just brushed it off and went back to playing the game. The new spouse recommended the father lighten up.

In the Lane household, the new woman was offending the lesbian, telling her that she thought lesbianism is wrong, etc. The lesbian decided to invite all her friends over for a dinner and then everyone spoke to Ms Chase about her opinions. Ms Chase revealed that she had something against Hispanics, disabled children, and homosexuals. It just so happens that she was having dinner with a crowd that includes Hispanics, a woman who had a daughter with Down's Syndrome, and some homosexual couples. Ms Chase was infuriated, accusing the lesbian of setting her up. This was strange because one minute Ms Chase was saying she doesn't care if she offends people, yet when she actually does offend a crowd she seemed to care very much. There's no question the lesbian did set up the whole thing. If I met a woman who was as rude as Ms Chase, I would try to keep her away from others for their own safety. Ms Chase later described herself as a "monster" and if you had a monster or an angry dog you would keep it away from other people. What the lesbian did was release this angry dog out into the public. But Ms Chase at the end seemed to realize the effect her rudeness had on other people, and at the end she says she doesn't want to be a monster anymore. I'm guessing here but I don't think deep down she is a monster, but she acts that way maybe to feel better about herself. Ms Chase was told that she could "dish it out but couldn't take it." She seemed to be perfectly happy offending others but she couldn't take it when someone else offended her. Like I said, in the end she seemed to learn her lesson, but I have little faith in these reality TV shows because I suspect that usually they contrive a happy ending. It's be great if she did change.

The chase/lane show was horrible for the MONSTER that hated or should I say JUDGED everybody that wasnt her! My question is who made her God? How did she get so perfect that she could sit back & judge others? What if we all judged her life? I'm sure she failed n areas just like we all have! We all have to play the hand we r dealt! If we love the same sex, are handicap, are from another country, we all do the best we can! & we all deserve the chance 2 do so! Only a person that doubts their on self would put others down so they can feel better!

I cannot believe such an ignorant person (Mrs. Prissy Chase) is allowed on television. I can't believe she turned the "party" situation around on Pepper... she was the one that said she wanted to take a taxi home!! STUPID! It is ridiculous... way to make yourself look like a dumb ass on the national television!! Then she says she's "too complex" HAHAHAHA!! I guess it's hard to open your mind when you've been closed to the real world for so long. I like her husband more than her! If I ever ran into her in the street WHOA watch out! I'd give her a piece of my mind!! And the fact that she called being gay a birth defect is so wrong! I think her being born the way she looks is a birth defect. God bless her daughters! I can only pray they don't end up like her! I watch this show a lot and she's my LEAST favorite... open your mind WOMAN!

I just saw this episode and agree completely that this horrible lady seemed like she should have been born in NAZI Germany. I think she's going to forever be the "picked on" one and I'm glad she's not my mom.

I would just like to say as a resident of Oregon, she gave us all a horrible name! I have been to Grants Pass where she is from and let me tell you it is a piece of crap town where no one wants to be. She has a problem with mexicans? There are more meth head homeless white people there than mexicans! She generalized about Oregon by saying "I'm from Oregon where I come from we don't have this"
SOOOO NOT TRUE! Visit Eugene or Portland where Gay and Lesbians flourish! I am proud to be an Oregonian because of this. I apologize on behalf or my state for the horrible things she said.

I just watched a rerun of this show and I cannot believe how a person can be so closed minded. Julie is the most hateful woman I have ever heard talk. Pepper is so open minded and a lot like me. I take care of developmentally disabled adults so what julie said about them is horrible. I would have stood up more and made her feel like crap because I am very outspoken and I don't put up with complete ignorance. I can't believe these people exist even though I know more of them are out there. Julie should look at her own family before judging others. Her family is a hateful mess. I wish she would come to my house and spend some time with me so she would learn how closed minded she is. I am really upset with this episode. Julie needs a big reality check!!!!

I never took time out of my life to comment about any TV show, but this episode really bothered me. I am glad you wrote a great blog about that horrific lady (Chase). I've never seen an ignorant person like herself and has never heard so many hateful things.

I wonder if she had any death threats or if her husband divorced her crazy ass!

I just watched a rerun of this episode and likewise, I have never posted a comment on a TV show or anything; but this show upset me so badly. I'm truely grateful that all these comments have been posted on this website and I feel the same way about this mom(Chase). I felt such a strong urge to comment on her that I actually Googled it; but everything I wanted to say has more or less been said. I just hope that she(Chase) has saw these comments and changed her poor, evil opinions on people who might be different than her in some other way. Also I was very glad to see Pepper put her on the spot at the dinner party. I'm not gay, hispanic or disabled; and I still think her behavior on this show was wrong. She was right to be afraid that no one would want her at the end of the show. I wouldn't want to be around anyone like that, let along be married to them!

I am watching a rerun of this show right now, yes I am Hispanic, and damn proud of it. If I would have had that bitch in my house, I THINK i would have had a murder charge. All of a sudden this bitch is a damn doctor to say " Well I think you being gay is a birth defect." I hope this bitch gets mugded one day by those ice heads in her town and that the only person walking by is a mexican ,gay or person with a birth defect and a cell phone. Then I bet it wouldnt be a problem then, but you know what I know we'd still help her, unlike her we're still human, not monsters.

Just remember while you judge. This show took forty hours of air time and edited into 45 minutes. I can't believe you don't know Hollywood as the fake world it is. They made a very nice woman look very cruel by their editing. Be kind. Unless you were there you don't know the truth.

Haha right, keep speaking for the racist bigots. I don't care how they portrayed her. She said what she said. What you posted shows you're the same.
